BREWING CONTEST: ALL HAIL TO ALE!
Attention all home-brewers: Enter your home-brewed Scottish or Irish ale in this year’s Brewing Contest! We’re using the Beer Judging Certification Program (BJCP) guidelines for entries and for judging. Judges will be BJCP-certified experts. That means we’re accepting BJCP category #9 beers only. Style details can be found here: http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style09.php. Prizes include Snug Memberships and gift certificates to Bacchus & Barleycorn. The contest is free to enter. Amateurs only please. Properly labeled entries will be accepted up until 4 p.m. at Bacchus & Barleycorn, Saturday, August 21.
CELTIC PRIDE IN COWTOWN” COW ART CONTEST
Do you have an artistic flair? Do you love the Irish Fest cow? Make your best cow in any media (don’t forget the shamrock) in 2D or 3D and bring it to the Kansas City Irish Fest. Entries must be 11” x 14” or smaller if two-dimensional art, and 12” x 12” x 12” or smaller if three-dimensional art. The contest is free to enter and open to all ages. Limit two entries per person. Amateurs only please. Bring your family-friendly artistic creation to the contest tent between 5–6 p.m., Friday, September 3. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded Friday by 6:30 p.m. First prize is two Friday Snug Membership Passes, second prize is a $35 KCIF merchandise certificate, third prize is a $20 KCIF merchandise certificate.
BAKING CONTEST: BREAD PUDDING!
Dust off your best recipe for bread pudding and test it out on your friends and family (like they’d mind)! Bring your yummiest bread pudding, along with a completed entry form, to the contest tent at Kansas City Irish Fest by 11:45 a.m. either Saturday, September 4 or Sunday September 5 for judging. First, second, and third place winners on both Saturday and Sunday receive a gift certificate to Pryde’s Old Westport. One Grand prize winner will be chosen from the daily first-place winners and awarded four tickets to next year’s Irish Fest, as well as a $100 gift certificate to Raglan Road Irish Pub! Two entries per person, per day, max. The contest is free to enter, and is open to all ages. Amateurs only please.
KNITTING CONTEST: ARAN ISLE SWEATERS!
Steeped in Irish history, traditional Aran Isle sweaters are coveted throughout the world. Saturday, we’ll be judging adult jumpers (sweaters), and Sunday, children’s or pet’s jumpers (sweaters). Bring your hand-made creation to the Contest Tent at Kansas City Irish Fest by 1:45 p.m. either Saturday, September 4, or Sunday, September 5 for judging. Like last year, there will be great prizes for first, second and third place winners, to be awarded both Saturday and Sunday. One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the daily first-place winners and awarded four tickets to next year’s Irish Fest, as well as a $100 gift certificate from Yarn Shop and More! There is no restrictions on the date the pieces were created. Two entries per person, per day, max. The contest is free to enter, and is open to all ages. Amateurs only please
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST: IRISH ICONS
The theme for this year’s photography contest is “Irish Icons”. Portraits, landscapes, still lifes, in Ireland or elsewhere—how you choose to interpret the theme is up to you. Bring your 8x10” (maximum) unframed photo (preferably mounted on foam core or mat board), along with a completed entry form for each entry (two per person maximum), to the Contest Tent at Kansas City Irish Fest by 3:45 p.m. either Saturday, September 5 or Sunday, September 6 for judging. First, second and third place winners will be awarded both Saturday and Sunday with great prizes. One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the daily first-place winners and awarded four tickets to next year’s Irish Fest, a signed print from Barry Henrickson’s “Ireland in Black and White” series, and a cash prize. There are no restrictions on the date the photograph was taken. Photographs will be judged on adherence to (or interpretation of) the theme, and the quality of photograph. The contest is free to enter, and is open to all ages. Amateurs only please.
