Belfast poet Gearóid Mac Lochlainn will read a selection of his work in Irish and English. His work looks at the Irish language, cultural translation, singing traditions, colonialism and conflict in Ireland and how poetry can approach these issues.

7:00 – 7:50 Irish in Kansas City
Come listen to Pat O’Neill, author of From The Bottom Up, talk about how the Irish came to Kansas City with high hopes for themselves, and great expectations for their children. Individual stories of happiness and disappointment.

11:00 – 11:50 Hurling & Gaelic Football
Learn the history of these most ancient of sports, their role in Irish Mythology and how the modern Gaelic Games came to be played in Kansas City. Take a camán in hand or try to solo a Gaelic football in this hands-on workshop led by members of the Kansas City Gaelic Athletic Club.

12:00 – 12:50 Fiddle Workshop
If you’ve always wanted your fiddle to sound more Irish, the opportunity is now. Come learn bow and finger techniques to make your jigs and reels come alive. Kansas City instructor Christa Scott will provide hands-on instruction.

1:00 – 1:50 How James Joyce Reinvented the English Language
Published in 1922 and 1939, Joyce's Ulysses and Finnegan’s Wake were written in a style that would forever change the English language. Professor Stephen Dilks uses specific examples to illustrate how Joyce's hilarious way with words and stories created an Irish-English that Dublin could embrace. Please join us as we explore the words and ways of James Joyce.

Learn ten basic steps to get started with your family history as well as how computers and technology can help your genealogy research. Barbara Scanlon has been working on genealogy for over 45 years, is a member of the National Genealogical Society, and has assisted many families to trace their roots to Ireland, England, France, and other countries.

3:00 – 3:50 Irish Language

Interested in the Gaelic language? Diare Bracken from the Irish band Slide will provide a beginner’s workshop on vocabulary, common phrases and basic grammar.

4:00 – 4:50 Bodhrán Workshop
What is an Irish Fest without a bodhrán workshop? Come learn about the bodhran and listen to four time All-Ireland bodhrán champion Eamon Murray show you how it’s done.

5:00 – 5:50 Irish Travel Workshop
Always wanted to know what a visit to Ireland has to offer? National travel agent of the year, Kathy Sudeikis, will provide travel ideas along with a Q&A session.

6:00 – 6:50 Uilleann Pipe Workshop
Tyler Duncan, of Millish, discusses and demonstrates various piping techniques and tunes. Bring your own set of pipes or just join him for some tunes

7:00 – 7:50 Irish Ghost Stories with Ghost Hunters International's Barry FitzGerald

11:00 – 12:40 Harp Workshop
From never-played-before to seasoned players, all are welcome to come and play! Candyce Dunham specializes in teaching any person interested how to play the Irish Harp and have fun doing it. Learn some history of the instrument and get to play some Irish tunes.

1:00 – 1:45 Jim Cosgrove and The Hiccups
Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove, and his band, The Hiccups, are back to perform their high-energy family concert. Jim is an award winning Kansas City-based singer/composer that has earned four national Parents’ Choice Recommended Awards, a National Parenting Publications Award, and a Kids Radio Mania Award.

The tin whistle is the simplest and least expensive instrument in Irish music, yet capable of producing exceptional music. Come learn all about the tin whistle and flute from Kansas City School of Irish Music instructor Turlach Boylan, an All Ireland Champion flute and whistle player.

4:00 – 4:50 Irish Travel Workshop
Always wanted to know what a visit to Ireland has to offer? National travel agent of the year, Kathy Sudeikis, will provide travel ideas along with a Q&A session.

5:00 – 5:50 The Irish in the Civil War
Come listen to the Irish music and literary legacy of the American Civil War as told via a musical lecture with Derek Warfield. Derek has 3 CD’s on the subject and has performed at all the major Civil War battlefield sites.

6:00 – 6:50 Traditional Irish Music Workshop
The Young Wolfe Tones musicians Damaris and Jim Woods perform a bodhran, tenor banjo and button accordion workshop not to be missed. Derek Warfield will provide a brief history of the instruments and their impact on traditional Irish music.

7:00 – 7:50 Bouzouki Workshop
Never heard of a bouzouki? Then you won’t want to miss Jimmy Crowley’s bouzouki workshop. Jimmy is an Irish traditional folk singer and musician from Cork City and has been entertaining crowds world-wide since 1977.

8:00 – 9:30 Ceili Workshop
