Genealogy Experts

Curious about the stories Uncle Michael shares at every family reunion? Stop by the genealogy area inside the Crown Center atrium and let Barbara Scanlon and Stacey Hodges and their renowned research team get to work! They'll start with your closest known relative and work our way back to fill out your Irish Family Tree.

If you have finished most of the work to build your family tree, or inherit a family tree from Cousin Bridget, but find yourself stuck on the history of a particular relative, their volunteers love a challenge. Bring your documentation and let them see if we can’t break though that “brick wall” with you.

Located in the air-conditioned Crown Center Atrium, genealogy staff will be available

  • Friday 5 pm - 8 pm
  • Saturday 11 am - 7 pm
  • Sunday 11 am - 7 pm

We will have two special sessions on the KC Irish Center Culture Stage

  • 3:00 – 3:50 Genealogy and DNA

Terry Gavin explains ways to analyze your DNA data and review options of both on-line and through downloads of your data. In addition, he will discuss the pitfalls which can come from expecting too much of the genetic testing.

  • 4:00 – 4:50 Genealogy – What’s New and Fun

Researching your ancestors is a lot of fun and becoming easier. It is best to do some research before going to Ireland. There are books, blogs and websites which are unique to Irish research. Barbara Scanlon, member of the National Genealogy Society, will discuss resources from US and Irish websites, including classes, workshops and webinars.
